On the Incarnation
Athanasius was a bishop of Alexandria who with much hard work defended the gospel. He lived from296-273 AD. Forty-five years were spent as bishop and seventeen of his years as a bishop were spent in exile for his faith. Arias was a priest who introduced the Arian heresy. He fought against this heresy for several years. After Athenasius’ death the Arian’s were finally defeated.
In Omnibus, we just read On the Incarnation. Athenasius made the Incarnation something real for me. In a lot of churches they make the Incarnation a nice little story , without truly believing the Word came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit and actually lived. This depiction made the story much more real to me. I have come to have a better appreciation of what Christ did for me.
Also , I never completly understood that through his death He restored the nature of man. I had been taught that He died so now we get to go to heaven when we die.But Jesus came to redraw us. Then I knew that Christ was fully God and fully man,but I never made the connection that he was both God and man while He was on the earth. Like the example that even as He was a baby just being born, He commanded a star to announce His birth and Persians came to worship Him. This book has cleared up many things for me.
I need to add this book to my list of books to read.
